Mandatory Disclosures required by the NJ Real Estate Commission
Before you make the commitment to enroll in a real estate pre-licensure course, you should be aware of the following information:
1. The law requires all applicants for salesperson and broker licenses to possess good character, trustworthiness, honesty and integrity. All applicants must submit to a criminal history record check. After successfully completing this course, at the time of taking the state exam, you will be asked certain “screening questions” (next slide) that relate to the statutory qualifications for real estate licensure. These requirements include:
2. Candidates must be over the age of 18.
3. Have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
4. Have no convictions for forgery, burglary, robbery, any theft offense (other than shoplifting), criminal conspiracy to defraud, or other like offenses within the 5 years preceding the application for licensure.
5. The Real Estate Commission has the discretion to grant or to deny licensure to any person who was convicted of forgery, burglary, robbery, any theft offense (other than shoplifting), criminal conspiracy to defraud, or other like offenses longer-ago than the 5 years preceding the application for licensure, or applicants who have had a professional license denied or revoked in this or any other state.
School Policy on Attendance and Final Exams
• Garden State Real Estate Academy and its licensed instructors have a legal and ethical obligation to certify to the NJ Real Estate Commission only those attendees who have attended and participated in the entire pre-licensing course. You must study each module and complete all Tracks, Assessments, Assignments and Section Reviews. You must attain at least a 70% passing grade for each quiz and review.
• You must complete the course on your own and pass the proctored examination without referring to another person or to any notes or reference materials.
School Policy on Cancellations
Persons who cancel a class within 48 hours of registering will receive a full refund minus a $50 service charge. Persons who cancel later than 48 hours after registering for a class will receive a full refund minus a
$100 service charge. Persons who no/show or who cancel after they have begun a class has started will receive no refund.
School Policy on Course Transfer
Persons who enroll in the Self-Study online course may, at any time prior to their completion of that course, transfer to one of our instructor-led 75-hour pre-licensing courses for a one-time fee of $149.
One Year Eligibilitv Notice
All candidates for New Jersey Real Estate Licenses are required to complete the fingerprinting process as a condition of securing a real estate license after completing the 75-hour pre-licensing course and before the ELIGIBILITY EXPIRATION DATE.
Individual candidates have ONE YEAR from the completion date of their last day of their pre licensure class (ELIGIBILITY EXPIRATION DATE) to take the following steps. You should complete the following steps as soon as possible:
• Schedule, take and pass the state examination administered by PSI Services
• Complete and provide evidence of fingerprinting process which includes:
o TI1e applicant's completed Universal Fo1·m (IDG_NJAPP_020115_V2) (print an official copy from DOBI/REC website)
o A copy of the payment receipt issued by Identogo
o All applicants must pay the criminal history record check fee directly to Identogo
o The total cost for this process is $62.69 (please note payment is required at the time of scheduling)
• File a fully completed application for licensure with the REC Licensing Services Bureau through a sponsoring broker.
NJ Real Estate Commission “Screening Questions”
1) With the exception of motor vehicle violations, have you ever been convicted of a crime, misdemeanor, or disorderly persons offense in the state of New Jersey, any other state or by the federal government, or are you presently on probation or parole?
2) Is there a criminal complaint, disorderly persons charge, a criminal accusation or criminal information presently pending against you or are you presently under indictment in New Jersey, any other state or by the federal government, or are you presently enrolled in New Jersey's Pre-Trial Intervention (PTI) program or any similar State or Federal program involving the deferral of the disposition or sentencing in a criminal matter?
3) Have you ever had a real estate or other professional license, certification or similar credential revoked, suspended, surrendered in lieu of formal prosecution, or denied in New Jersey or any other state?
4) Do you have a child support obligation on which there is an arrearage due that equals or exceeds the amount of child support payable for six months, or are you the subject of a child support related warrant, or during the past six (6) months have you failed to provide any court ordered health care coverage, or have you failed to respond to a subpoena relating to a paternity or child support proceeding?
5) Are you UNDER the age of 18 at the time of taking this examination?
6) Do you now hold, or have you ever held, ANY license issued by the New Jersey Real Estate Commission?
7) Are you a high school graduate or the holder of a G.E.D.?
8) Do you currently hold a real estate license issued by another state?
